Mike Bowers is one of the co-founders of Pals for Life Radio. Born and raised in North Carolina, talking on the radio was not something he ever envisioned, mainly because talking itself was a challenge.
Unable to speak at two years old, Mike’s parents took him to a series of specialists who originally suggested placing him in a special needs home. Mike’s parents opted to take him to Karen Long in Greensboro, NC, where he went through over two years of intensive speech therapy. By the time Kindergarten rolled around, there were no signs of any issues ever existing.
Mike originally earned the nickname “Big Mike” growing up, mainly because of his absurdly rocketing height as a child. Mike was 5’0″ at eight years old, 5’7″ as an 11-year old, and 6’0″ by the time he turned 13. After stopping growing shortly after that, the biggest thing about Mike now is his personality!
Mike holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the University of North Carolina Asheville, and a Master’s degree in Counselor Education from Clemson University. He currently works in higher education, where he’s been a college administrator for close to 15 years. He’s happily married to his wife, Amanda, and they’re waiting for the day they can expand their family with a Welsh Terrier they will name Truman.
In his free time (since, you know, that’s all we have right now), Mike enjoys video games, music, and other offbeat shenanigans.
